Why MindCare Dementia Support?

Putting the Person with Dementia First

At MindCare, we treat everyone as an individual when planning care for someone with a dementia. We take the time to find out about a client’s background, abilities, interests and preferences and tailor support to meet their needs. We regularly review support plans to meet with the changing needs of the client.

Excellent Staffing for Attention to Individual Needs

With excellent staffing ratios at MindCare (1 staff member to 4 clients), we can meet the individual physical, spiritual, emotional, cognitive and cultural needs of each client. MindCare staff are experienced, qualified and able to positively manage challenging behaviour.

Stimulating Activities

Families can have peace of mind knowing their relative or friend with a dementia is benefitting from taking part in a range of activities to encourage normal, independent living and social interaction in a relaxed, professional, safe environment. Activities to maintain cognitive health include:

  • a sensory room and garden
  • reminiscence and storytelling
  • music and singing
  • indoor and outdoor games
  • arts and crafts groups
  • exercise relevant to individual capabilities
  • cooking and office activities.

Other Features

  • Meals prepared onsite
  • Wheelchair accessibility
  • Nail careservices (available at some centres)
  • Transport (subject to availability and eligibility criteria)

Training and Information for Family and Friends (Carers)

Whether you are a family member or friend caring for someone with a dementia, we know how much caring can put on a strain on all aspects of your own life. We offer home-based, personalised individual training or group workshops, giving families and friends a better understanding of dementia and how to work with challenging needs in caring for someone with a dementia. MindCare services are designed to give families and friends a break from caring to look after themselves and have their own life. We also provide training for family and friends to learn more about dementia and how to manage the challenges of caring.
