Why Work for Us

You can make a positive impact on people’s lives

Bromley Mind empowers its mental health service users through the provision of activities and facilities that help to develop social confidence, mutual support and a positive role in the community. Bromley Mind supports carers and enriches the quality of life of people suffering from dementia. As an employee of Bromley Mind you would be encouraged to take an active part in making sure this happens.

You will be part of an organisation with a high profile both locally and nationally

Bromley Mind is affiliated to National Mind, but is also an independent registered charity and company limited by guarantee. Our turnover is over £1.7 million and we employ over 100 staff. We also have a large number of volunteers. You will be part of a well-respected local organisation, with the benefits of being part of a much bigger network.

We are committed to your personal development

Bromley Mind is committed to the continuous development of staff as a means of delivering quality services and maintaining a healthy organisation. We aim to provide good quality supervision and appraisal, training and induction. This is backed up by our Staff Development Policy. Training needs are assessed annually and met in a range of ways, including in-house workshops, joint training and external courses and conferences. Staff are involved in the planning and decision making process, and have opportunities to develop skills and interests by leading on organisation-wide projects.

Ongoing support

Every employee at Bromley Mind is supported from day one, starting with a comprehensive induction and probationary programme. Your line manager will continue to meet with you for regular supervision for the duration of your employment.

Attractive terms and conditions

We offer generous annual leave of a minimum of 25 days (rising with service),
family-friendly flexible working arrangements where appropriate, and good travel and subsistence allowances. We also offer a matched contribution pension scheme, details of which are available on request.

Exciting career development opportunities

Bromley Mind is continuously growing and is well respected by its statutory funders (e.g. Bromley Council, Primary Care Trust) its NHS partners and other Bromley voluntary organisations. New and ground-breaking projects are currently being developed in both our adult mental health and dementia services. You could be part of an organisation at the cutting edge of developments in good practice.

Equality and Diversity

Bromley Mind is committed to equality of opportunity and the elimination of discrimination and ensures that no job applicant, employee, volunteer, carer or service user is discriminated against, either directly or indirectly on the grounds of mental disability or mental health need, race, colour, religion, ethnic or national origin, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, physical or sensory disability or age. As an employee of Bromley Mind you will be encouraged to work with others through local networks to eliminate stigma, discrimination and disadvantage and to promote justice.

Effective policies and procedures

Bromley Mind has developed an extensive range of policies and procedures to ensure that our employment and working practices are fair, workable and understood by all. We ensure that everyone has “ownership” of these policies by involving staff, service users, carers, volunteers and Trustees in their development, implementation and review.

Location

We are based in the London Borough of Bromley, which is served by good rail, bus and tram links. The majority of our projects are based near main line railway stations and our Head Office is based in Orpington, which is linked by fast trains to central London. There are good shopping and entertainment facilities and a variety of restaurants, many of which are multi-cultural.
